Iran's Foreign Minister Set for Talks in Lebanon
Speaking about the upcoming diplomatic mission, Araghchi stated: "We seek to expand ties, and the other side has the same motivations." The Iranian foreign minister confirmed an economic delegation will join him during the Lebanon trip.
The scheduled visit comes weeks after a diplomatic exchange last December, when Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji turned down Araghchi's Tehran invitation. Instead, Rajji proposed arranging talks in a neutral third-party nation acceptable to both governments.
Rajji's written response clarified his position wasn't a rejection of diplomatic engagement. He communicated Lebanon's willingness to enter a fresh chapter of productive cooperation with Iran, emphasizing principles of reciprocal respect for national sovereignty, independence, and refraining from meddling in domestic matters. The Lebanese foreign minister also indicated Araghchi would receive a warm reception should he choose to visit Lebanon—a visit now set to materialize Thursday.
